Massive Roadblock in Habiganj as Students Rally for 'Remembering Our Heroes'
The demonstration kicked off around 12:30 PM, with students congregating at the Municipal Town Hall area. Waving banners and holding aloft placards, the crowd quickly swelled as more students joined from different parts of the district headquarters. The sheer number of participants soon led to a blockade of the district Awami League office on the south side and the Pukurpar area to the north, effectively bringing the city's main road to a standstill.
During the peak of the protest, from 12:30 PM to 2:30 PM, traffic in the entire city came to a halt. The students, undeterred by the growing police and Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) presence, fervently chanted slogans demanding justice and recognition for their cause. The authorities, initially stationed in the town hall area, were forced to relocate to the Chan Mia Mosque area as the number of demonstrators surged.
After maintaining the blockade for two hours, the students embarked on a protest march around the city at 2:30 PM. The procession, marked by energetic chants and a palpable sense of purpose, wound through the main road before culminating at Vrindavan College.
Russell Ahmed, a prominent coordinator of the anti-discrimination student movement, addressed the media during the event. "Today's gathering is a part of our pre-announced 'Remembering Our Heroes' program," he stated. "The government continues to arrest, detain, and torture students without addressing our nine-point demands. Consequently, we now insist on the resignation of the government as our primary demand."
The demonstration underscores the students' unwavering resolve to fight against perceived injustices and advocate for their rights. As the situation unfolds, it remains to be seen how the authorities will respond to this growing movement.
