Bangladesh Reaches Out to Mediated Talks for Israel-Palestine Ceasefire

Dhaka, Bangladesh - May 7, 2024 - As the fragile peace talks between Israel and Hamas appear close to collapse, Bangladesh has emerged as a potential mediator in the ongoing conflict. The South Asian nation, with its strong diplomatic ties to both the Arab world and Israel, is uniquely positioned to play a crucial role in de-escalating tensions.

Bangladesh Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi, known for his moderate stance on international issues, has expressed his deep concern about the rising violence in the Gaza Strip. "The recent escalation of violence has resulted in unacceptable civilian casualties on both sides," stated Qureshi. "We urge all parties involved to exercise restraint and return to the negotiating table."

Bangladesh's past experiences in peacekeeping missions and its role as the Chair of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in 2023 lend credibility to its potential mediator role.
