This time, Saudi women can participate in the Miss Universe competition

For the first time, Saudi Arabia can send a representative to the Miss Universe contest this year. This was stated this week by the Miss Universe organizing committee. The Saudi Arabian model who claimed to have been chosen to compete in the Miss Universe contest late last month prompted the organizing committee to take action. Despite the fact that they stated the model's purported falsity.

Saudi model Rumi Al Qahtani stated that she felt honored to have been given the chance to compete in the forthcoming Miss Universe pageant in an Instagram post at the end of March of last year.

Along with the Instagram post, 27-year-old Riyadh resident Qahtani also shared some of his own photos. Qahtani was observed there, wearing green, and carrying the flag of Saudi a kingdom.

Authorities from Miss Universe released a statement a week later. They contend that Qahtani's post is deceptive and fraudulent. They asserted that there was no selection procedure for Saudi Arabia's Miss Universe competition.

In a recent statement to AFP, Maria Jose Unda, the international relations coordinator for the Miss Universe Organization, stated, "The organization is now conducting a rigorous screening process to select a potential candidate from Saudi Arabia."

He claims that the Saudi Arabian competitor might be chosen prior to the commencement of the upcoming Miss Universe competition. The competition is slated to take place in September of next year in Mexico.

Unda claims that representatives will be chosen in Saudi Arabia via a national competition, following which candidates will be sent to the Miss Universe event. If Kahtani needs to win the national stage competition before he can compete in the main tournament.

Qahtani was interviewed by an AFP agent at his Riyadh residence. According to Qahtani, she is currently having conversations about competing in the Miss Universe contest. He didn't go into further detail on this, though.

This is another attempt by Saudi Arabia to distance itself from its ultra-conservative image—sending a Miss Universe contender from the country. Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman is attempting to win over investors and visitors by reducing his extreme conservatism.

Globally, Saudi Arabia is the top exporter of crude oil. Women are no longer prohibited from driving in Saudi Arabia in a number of sectors, including driving. However, human rights advocates claim that a statute that went into effect discriminates against women even in 2022. When it comes to childrearing, divorce, and marriage, the law is discriminating.
