West Bengal's underwater metro rail is in its infancy
India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi has inaugurated the underground metro rail under the river Ganges from Dharmatala Esplanade in West Bengal, Kolkata to Howrah Maidan. After the inauguration on Wednesday (March 6), he took the school-going children and teenagers on the metro train and crossed the specified route. This is India's first underwater rail corridor.
The 4.8 km long Howrah Maidan and 520 m line of the esplanade section runs along the river bed. It will take just 46 seconds to cross. It is also technologically advanced. A blue light will flash the moment the train enters the tunnel.
The blue LED light will show that the train is running under water at that moment. The tunnel is built 33 meters below the water surface with high power optical fiber. Passengers will also get 5G speed internet facility.
On this route of metro, Howrah Metro, then Howrah Maidan will be the stoppage between Dharmatala Esplanade and Howrah Maidan. After that, if the passengers want to go somewhere, they have to change the metro. However, the passengers have to buy the ticket once for the whole trip. Fares from Howrah to Dakshineshwar, Baranagar and Noapara will cost Rs.30.
The fare from Howrah Maidan to Dum Dum, Belgachia and Shyambazar has been fixed at Rs.25. On the other hand, the fare up to Shobha Bazar-Sutanuti, Girish Park and Mahatma Gandhi Road is Rs.20.
Fares from Howrah Maidan to Central, Chandni Chowk, Parkstreet and Maidan are fixed at Rs.15. Metro fare from Kolkata's neighboring district Howrah Maidan to Rabindrasadan, Netaji Bhavan and Jatin Das Park will cost Rs 20. Metro fare from Howrah Maidan to Kalighat, Rabindra Sarobar, Mahanayak Uttar Kumar (Taligonj) and Netaji (Kundghat) is Rs.25 and the last route from Howrah Maidan to Masterda Surya Sen (Bansdroni), Gitanjali (Naktala), Kabi Nazrul (Garia Bazar), Shahid The fare for passengers up to Khudiram (Briji) and Kavi Subhash (New Garia) stations has been fixed at Rs.30.
Meanwhile, this metro rail tunnel passing under the river Ganges is going to be a monument of India's breakthrough development. Narendra Modi also launched and inaugurated several other projects on this day.
It should be noted that the first metro service started in Kolkata city on 24 October 1984. After the first 3.4 kilometers of this railway, the distance of this metro train has increased to 31 kilometers.
