Sugar mill fire, Coast Guard-Air Force is working
The fire at S Alam Sugar Mill in Karnaphuli Thana area of Chittagong has been burning for more than four hours. 14 units of five stations of fire service are working to control the fire. Fire service personnel are struggling to control the fire. But the fire is still not under control.
A fire broke out in a sugar mill located in Moizyartek area of Karnaphuli upazila around 4 pm on Monday (March 4). Chittagong district administration has formed an investigation committee of 7 members in this incident.
It is known that several units of the Coast Guard and Air Force are working with the fire service to control the fire. 13 personnel from Zahurul Haque Air Force base joined the fire fighting. And the fire service vehicles are trying to bring the fire under control by taking water directly from the Karnaphuli river through the pipe.
Fire service workers and sugar mill officials said that S Alam Super Refined Sugar Industries Limited is located in Moizartek area on the banks of Karnaphuli river. A fire broke out in one of the six godowns of the sugar mill here. Imported raw and refined sugar was stored there. The fire intensified and spread throughout the godown. However, the fire has not yet spread to five nearby godowns.
Incidentally, on February 29, a fire broke out in the Green Cozy Cottage building around 10:30 pm. So far 46 people have been killed in this incident. A writ was filed in the High Court seeking directions to close restaurants in all residential establishments including Bailey Road in the capital. At the same time, the writ sought directions to arrest the real culprits in the fire at Bailey Road and to compensate the families of the injured and the deceased.
