50 thousand tons of onions are coming from India this week
Onion market is not coming under control. Onion has to be bought at Tk 120 to Tk 130 per kg even in full season. In this situation, the government has decided to import the vegetable from India. State Minister for Commerce Ahsanul Islam said that 50 thousand tons of onions will come from the country this week.
He said that 50 thousand metric tons of onion will come from India this week. As a result, onion prices will be under control in the market.
The Minister of State for Commerce said these things to reporters after a program organized by women entrepreneurs at the Bangabandhu International Conference Center (BICC) in Agargaon of the capital on Saturday morning.
Ahsanul Islam said that he had a bilateral discussion with India's Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal during the thirteenth ministerial meeting of the World Trade Organization (WTO) in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. There, India's commerce minister said that he has ordered to issue a letter to send 50,000 tons of onions to Bangladesh. They received that letter yesterday. The state minister for commerce said that onions will come to the country from this week.
It was decided to reduce the price of soybean oil in the task force meeting held at the Ministry of Commerce on February 20 to review commodity prices and market conditions. It was decided to reduce the price of soybean oil by 10 taka to 163 taka per liter. On the same day, it was announced that the new rate of soybean oil will be effective from March 1. However, the retail market has not yet started selling oil at the new price.

In this context, the Minister of State for Commerce said that it may take a day or two to have an impact on the retail market. Monitoring has started in this regard since yesterday. Even today our team visited each oil mill. It will be effective at the retail level from Sunday.
The state minister said, we will solve the problems of traders but will not listen to any excuses. There is no late discount on any daily necessities during Ramadan except for a valid reason. Our target is not only Ramadan, but even after the month of Ramadan, the daily market will remain normal. Prime Minister's directives that common people will not be held hostage by any businessman or group. One crore people of TCB will get some daily commodities including oil and sugar at subsidized prices.
