RAB raids in 4 hospitals of the capital, 36 brokers arrested
A mobile court of RAB arrested 36 brokers while distributing patients from four hospitals including three government hospitals in the capital's Sherebangla Nagar on Wednesday. They were arrested in the operation that lasted from 9 am to 12:30 pm today.
RAB-2 Deputy Commander, Major Nazmullahil Wadud, Deputy Commander of RAB-2, told Prothom Alo today, that brokers were distributing patients from government hospitals to their commission-based clinics and private hospitals. At that time, 17 people were arrested while distributing patients from Suhrawardy Hospital, 12 from National Heart Institute and Hospital, 4 from Agargaon Children's Hospital and 3 from Paralympic Hospital.
Four teams of RAB-II conduct these operations separately.
As of writing this report at around 1 am, the anti-broker operation was going on in the hospitals.
Major Wadud said, as soon as the patient arrives at the government hospital, brokers follow the patient and mislead the patient. They told the patients and their relatives that the treatment in the government hospital is not good. The doctor has not come here yet. There are no empty beds here. If you go to an outside hospital, you will get good treatment, the cost is also low there.' Thus lured them to contract clinics and private hospitals. From there they get commission as per the contract.
RAB official Wadud said, another ring of brokers is active in government hospitals. They surrounded the patients when they came out of the doctor's room and took the medical prescriptions from them and forcibly photographed them. Later they influence the concerned doctor to prescribe their contracted drug company drugs. The RAB official said that details will be given in the press conference organized around 1.30 pm today about the arrested brokers.
